COVID-19 has brought great changes in the lives of each of us and now we have to adapt to a situation of forced isolation. Quarantine presumes having to stay at home, but doing it alone is often not possible: many Italian families live in fact sharing closed and limited spaces.
The ISS, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, immediately transmitted the rules for correct behavior, aimed at avoiding infection: wash your hands often, keep a safe distance, do not touch your mouth, nose and eyes, use disposable tissues . But how should we behave at home? How should we sanitize closed rooms occupied by several people at the same time?
The ventilation is a subject little discussed in the public debate, just as we read in this article, but we think it is extremely important. We still know little about the potential contagion in closed environments, but it is certain that viral particles of infinitesimal dimensions can remain in the air of an environment that - if closed and frequented by several people - can become a dangerous source of contagion.
As explained in this article in Scienza in Rete, studies carried out on tuberculosis showed that the smallest droplets we produce through sneezing and coughing - precisely due to their very small size (2-3 microns) - can be inhaled and be dangerous as they maintain their infectious capacity. It is likely that the same thing happens for Coronavirus: the small particles that hover in the air can transmit the virus from one individual to another.
The increased ventilation of the rooms we occupy in this quarantine period becomes crucial: the experts themselves advise opening windows regularly and often. In addition, the exchange of natural air is more advisable, if possible, to the mechanical one. In fact, it has been shown that the first ensures better circulation than the second: with the windows fully open, up to 69 air changes per hour are achieved.
The ventilation of the rooms is a small but essential gesture that we can put into practice immediately to protect ourselves and our family.
In detail, experts advise to open the windows farthest from the busy streets or in any case at times of lesser influx of cars and avoid instead leaving them open all night.
The duration of ventilation depends on two different factors: the size of the environment and the number of people in it. International guidelines recommend 3 to 6 air changes per hour, and 12/hour in rooms occupied by people infected with Coronavirus.
As for commercial premises such as supermarkets, pharmacies, post offices, but also offices and public transport it is necessary - in addition to properly airing all spaces leaving doors and windows open - to meticulously take care of cleaning the filters and grids of air conditioning systems.
Skymatik products are bioclimatic pergolas studied, designed and manufactured to promote natural air recirculation. With our pergolas we want to give everyone the opportunity to create an airy, comfortable, healthy environment at home. An environment in which you feel good alone or with your family.
Air exchange is in fact an intrinsic feature of our products. The adjustable blades guarantee a specific living comfort in the different seasons and according to the various weather conditions.
In summer, by fully opening the blades, you can enjoy your outdoor space by defending yourself from the high temperatures of the hottest days. During the middle seasons it will instead be possible to close the perimeter of your pergola with a practical all-glass sliding door system and position the blades as you prefer, to increase or decrease the natural air circulation. Finally, in winter, in colder or rainy days, it will be sufficient to completely close the cover to recreate a protected, dry and comfortable environment.
We work to offer a quality product that can help keep your rooms healthy and give you natural comfort every day.
